Section 1

  1. Beginning July 1, 2027, an apprenticeship program for a building or construction trade occupation approved by the apprenticeship council under this chapter must provide apprentices with behavioral health and wellness training and must require apprentices to successfully complete the training. Any new or updated apprenticeship program standards for a building or construction trade occupation approved by the council under this chapter on or after July 1, 2027, must include the training hours under this section.

  2. [Empty]

    1. The behavioral health and wellness training must include at least two hours of instruction. These hours are in addition to, and do not supplant, the minimum related or supplemental instruction hours required for the applicable program.

    2. The behavioral health and wellness training must cover the following topics: (i) Destigmatizing behavioral health and supporting wellness; (ii) recognizing signs of distress; (iii) suicide prevention; (iv) substance abuse disorder awareness and prevention; and (v) providing peer support and connecting to resources.
