SB 5812 - Concerning the response to electric vehicle fires.

Section 1

  1. The Washington state patrol, in consultation with the department of ecology and local fire protection districts, must study the following elements of electric vehicle fires:

    1. Impacts to the environment and proximate residential areas, and health impacts to responding firefighters;

    2. Best practices for fire response; and

    3. Best practices regarding clean-up and disposal efforts.

  2. By January 1, 2025, the Washington state patrol must report to the appropriate committees of the legislature study findings and any resulting policy or legislative recommendations.

Section 2

The sum of $150,000, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 2025, from the state patrol highway account to the Washington state patrol for the purposes of this act.
